About Thom
I didn’t set out to become a product development consultant. I set out to make things.
Cliffe House Organics started the way a lot of good things do, around a kitchen table. My family had been making soaps and home fragrance products by hand, formulating recipes, sending batches off for testing, figuring it out as we went. It was messy, exciting and occasionally a disaster. But somewhere in that process I started to understand how products actually come to life, not from a textbook but from doing it.
Over the years that kitchen table turned into a manufacturing operation. I moved into private and white label production, working with brands of all sizes to bring their ideas to market. And that’s where I started to see the same story play out again and again.
A founder would arrive with a brilliant idea and real passion for their product. Then the process would slowly grind them down. A lab would quote them a minimum order they couldn’t afford. A manufacturer would take weeks to respond and give them a price with no context. A regulatory requirement they’d never heard of would appear three months in. Nobody was giving them the full picture, just their piece of it.
I’ve spent ten years on the inside of that world. I know which manufacturers genuinely go the extra mile for smaller brands and which ones are just ticking boxes. I know what makes a brief land well and what gets it filed away. I know the regulation well enough to tell you what actually applies to your product and what doesn’t. And I know what a realistic cost model looks like before you’ve committed to anything.
I work with everyone from people launching their very first product to established brands looking to extend their range or benchmark what they’re already doing. The challenges are different at each stage but the need is the same. A clear picture, honest guidance and someone in your corner who understands the whole process, not just one part of it.
Brief to Batch exists because I think founders and brand builders deserve better than being passed from a lab to a manufacturer to a compliance consultant and back again with nobody joining the dots. You should be able to see the full picture from day one, what it costs, who can make it, whether the numbers work, and make your own decision from there.
That’s what I do. No agenda, no preferred supplier, no jargon. Just honest guidance from someone who has been on this journey themselves and wants to help you get there faster.
If you have got an idea and you are not sure where to start, or you have already started and you are stuck, come and have a conversation. The first one is always free.
